Mike is a member of the Lumorus Board and is currently Chair of Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP),  Transport for Greater Manchester, numerous UK and international Charities and former Chair of Manchester Commission for a New Greener Economy . ​He has extensive expertise working with local enterprise partnerships and charities to play diverse roles reflecting the differing local priorities. 

At the Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership, he helped design support for businesses, charities and local authorities to collaborate on initiatives to tackle major barriers to growth and develop shared strategies for the local economy to increase job creation and push toward more sustainable environmental ambitions and greater social equity. ​ 

He has led the combination of strong private sector business leadership with groups of local authorities whose leadership, planning, regulatory and infrastructure roles are critical to business growth. These bodies bring an integrated approach across real economic geographies, fostering a strong environment for business growth in a sustainable way.​ 

He has extensive experience across a range of sectors with specific skills in complex cross-sector strategy, and a combination of business and local government partnerships to achieve geographic-specific objectives. ​ 

In 2015 Mike was awarded an OBE for Services to the Economy Development in the North-West and in 2016 was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Manchester Metropolitan University.​
